Should I keep tanning? This is a question that I have been pondering. My mom and grams have given me (lovingly, I am sure) lectures and advice to give it up. I made a list of reasons why I want to keep tanning and a list of reason why I should stop (you will notice that I didn't write down reason why I want to stop).
Reasons to keep it up:
1. Tanning camouflages cellulite! (Big time bonus!)
2. I love the look of my skin when it is darker.
3. The tanning oil really makes my skin soft.
4. I look much prettier tan than white.
These are some of the reason to keep tanning. I know, most of these seem quite superficial, however, this is still how I feel.
Reason to quit:
1. Skin cancer runs in my family. My poor grandpa doesn't even have most of one of his ears due to it, and monthly has more cancer zapped off. My dad has had some as well. I really don't want cancer!
2. This is a big one (the cancer should be bigger, but the superficiality comes in to play here). Tanning causes premature aging! I don't want to look ten years older than I am....I really don't want to look as old as I am anyway, but I for sure don't want to look like a beat up old leather mitt!
Really, those are the only two reasons that I am going to give up tanning. So, in answer to my question, no, I should not keep tanning.......I might have to go in to mourning for a bit!

I have been down this road before. It is so awesome to be VERY tan but the benifits don't outway the risk...not to say you will never see me laying out but...not near as much as I have in the past and esp. no tanning beds :)

maybe it's called 'growing up' hopefully it happens to everyone, some sooner, some later..Lvya
Yea, I don't think I have grown up, because I still really want to do it! lol
I think that your "need" for it is accentuated by the fact that you live where there is ALWAYS sun, and a lot of people are tan there. If you need any further convincing, go to www.brycedbrown.com and start from the beginning and read the whole thing.
I tan too! :) It actually helps my moods in the winter when there's no sun. I go about every two to three weeks, just for the happy factor. In the summer I try to spend time outside. My kids have noticed I am better when I've spent time out in the sun. And my biggie is yours, it's the whole aging factor, which is why I don't tan as much as I would actually do...and that was bad English.
Katie, most of the people that are dark get it from their skin pigment. The caucasian people don't seem to tan as much where I live. I was quite dark compared to them. Maybe because it is too hot to go outside. I don't know. I'll check out the website. Thanks! :)
Hiroko....you make me laugh. I LOVE your comment at the end. hehe It is crazy how good it makes me (and you, from your statement) feel. The funny thing is that I HATE to be hot! lol I could not do it if I were not right next to a pool to jump in.
Okay since I am few years older I can attest that the whole aging thing starts to happen. I have been noticing many brown "age spots" showing up on my face and hands, due to tanning in my younger years. I do not want to spend the rest of my life in the dermatologist's office trying to get rid of all of the damage. Just really think about it!
