Are clothes good for your health?

I have been struggling....a lot! I want to lose some weight and be more healthy i.e. exercise daily (sigh) and not eat everything that passes in front of me or my mind. However, I have been having a REALLY hard time doing this!! I can't figure it out. I know that I am capable of doing it, seeing as how I have done it before. Now, before you think that I am putting on the pounds, I am not (at least not in addition to the 10 pounds I gained when we moved to El Centro). I am just maintaining. However, I don't think about that, this is what usually runs through my mind. "I am so fat (I hate that word, by the way)" or "I hate how I look" or "What if I am embarrassing my husband" (he says I am not and to shut up). Anyway, you get the gist. So, James and I sat down to talk about this state of mind/body and what could be done about it. I decided that maybe if I dressed better (not pajama bottoms and t-shirts everyday) and actually put on make-up even if I was not going to church I might feel better about myself. I used to do it everyday and now I have become a shlumpy (is that a word?) housewife! So, I went shopping! I bought some skirts (they hide fat better than pants), shirts, a pair of capris and shoes. Now, back to the question of whether clothes are good for you health. I have to say, unequivocally, YES!!!! I feel better when I look 'put together'. When I feel better I want to do better, which should help with the healthy side of things. I have even found that I am not so hard on what my body looks like (with clothes on, anyway). I have set new goals for my weight (I think more realistic) and hopefully have pulled myself out of the slump! yipee!!!

It's is "frumpy" and I am not agreeing with you about them being good for your health. I think it is because you tell yourself you look better because you are wearing the new clothes. Maybe you are looking for a slight justification. I think you could feel that way if you put yourself in the same state of mind with something other than new clothes. Maybe I feel this way because I don't like to spend money, and clothes cost money. Peace out woman.

Clothes are one of the best pick-me-ups (and shoes!). If I spend a few days shut in my house, wearing only sweats or t-shirts and a lava lava, I feel pretty crappy. I find that sometimes I have to give myself a reason to dress up a little and head out of the house, just so I can feel better. I'm so thrilled you got yourself some new duds (that you SO deserve)!!

I believe clothes work...when I'm dressed up, I work better...when I wear jeans to work, I tend to be a little less focused on the job at hand.

Josh, you are a butt. I NEVER buy me clothes, so there is no justifying it for me. :P I suppose if I were to be comfortable in long black socks, shorts and some funky t-shirt, topping it off with slippers I might feel the same way! haha....love you bro!

Hiroko, thanks! I needed that after my brother's comment! lol And shoes ARE the best!

Scott, thanks!

Hmm, that's funny that you called Josh a butt, because that's EXACTLY what you're mom called him on Sunday. It was HILARIOUS!!!! We were all shocked and thoroughly entertained. I think clothes have a HUGE impact on how you feel, and on what you weigh. I know that when I wear baggy sweats and clothes, I don't notice my clothes getting tight as I pack on some more pounds. I've noticed that when i do get dressed up (whether new clothes or old clothes) I definitely have a different attitude from when I don't. Love ya!

I feel the same way. Clothes and putting on makeup and maybe doing you hair do make a difference. I like Sundays because I have a chance to dressup and feel pretty. My mom told me to be careful and not get caught up in the sweats all day thing. It really works to just put on a pair of jeans instead of the sweats even. Don't listen to your brother he is a man after all and probably still has clothes in his closet from way back. hehehe

Katie, that is pretty funny that mom said that! I wish I could have been there and told her that we don't use 'ugly' words especially applied to other people! lol

Penny, it is not just because he has clothes from so long ago, but because he doesn't like to spend money! lol
